Configure Excel Calculation Services on SharePoint 2010

Filed under: SharePoint — basquang @ 3:59 AM

Sometime we can’t open excel file in SharePoint pages. Looking event viewer you see “There was an error in communicating with Excel Calculation Services”. If this is happened, following steps:

– Open IIS then go to “SharePoint Web Services Root” application pool

– Verify that Identity property of this application pool is setting to the SharePoint farm account like this (It’s must be DOMAIN\account.)

Hope this help!

  1. Thank you so much! I had this problem with Excel Services and Access Services and I’d been unable to resolve it for a couple of weeks. Your solution worked perfectly (my SharePoint Web Services Root app pool was stopped and not set to run under the farm admin) and I didn’t see this solution anywhere else online. Thanks for posting it.

I was thrown off because another article (http://www.harbar.net/archive/2009/12/04/more-on-sharepoint-2010-application-pools.aspx) says about the SharePoint Web Services Root app pool “it’s absolutely OK that this Application Pool is stopped.” Obviously that’s not true.

  3. A motivating discussion is worth comment. I do believe that you should write more on this subject, it may not
be a taboo matter but generally people don’t discuss such topics. To the next! Many thanks!!streetdirectory
